Our View
Wilderness Safaris have now ventured into Tanzania. And they have done so with aplomb. A luxurious mobile tented camp operation following the Serengeti National Park’s legendary Great Migration. The camp moves more than other migration camps, which gives an ultra unique experience, and you will be in front row seats as the drama unfolds away from the crowds.
Mobile, yet completely luxurious and most importantly the 8 camp locations are ideally situated with the Serengeti’s designated walking zone, so guided walks can begin directly from the camps. This is in addition to the game drivers, birding and stargazing.
Usawa means ‘balance’ in Swahili and we believe that the stars align with this offering, with comfort and action at the forefront.
Wilderness Usawa Serengeti Mobile Camp - The Facts
Intimate, exclusive, and exceptional, Wilderness Usawa Serengeti accommodates 12 guests in six en-suite safari tents. As the set-up is completely mobile, no permanent fixtures are left behind when the camp moves, leaving a light footprint on the Earth. Following the ever-moving mega-herds throughout the year in the key locations, rather uniquely, guests will only know 2 weeks before departure where the camp will be situated.
Whilst most migration camps move between two or three designated spots in the Serengeti, Usawa's eight locations are perfectly situated in regions that not only allow you to witness first-hand the beauty of the migration, but allows you to enjoy privacy and intimacy not found in many national parks.
As with all Wilderness run camps, the guides shape truly memorable guest experiences. In addition to game drives, the locations of Usawa allow for guided walks, exploratory birding and a favourite pastime: stargazing.
Being under canvas is something that a Serengeti Safari should be shaped around. Nothing quite compares to listening to the lions roaring or the hippos honking at night. Mobile camps allow you to immerse yourself in nature in a way that permanent lodges do not. Giving you that authentic 'Out of Africa' feel which is what draws so many visitors to East Africa.
The camps are solar powered, with rechargeable lights and charging stations in the rooms, as well as Wi-Fi and hot water.
Wilderness Usawa Serengeti welcomes children aged 6 and older, though children under 16 must share a room with an adult. The camp must be booked for sole use to accept children younger than 6.
