Mbalageti Tented Lodge is actually quite lovely, but its size lets it down. The rooms are very good and the main area is inviting and warm but when you have up to 80 people in the lodge it doesn’t really feel like a typical safari camp or appeal to us. It is also seasonal interms of the Great Migration, only being located in the right area for a short period each year..
Mbalageti Lodge - The Facts
Mbalageti Lodge is located in the Western Corridor of the
Serengeti, about half an hour’s drive from the Grumeti airstrip which is about a two and half hour flight from Arusha.
Although the camp is very seasonal for the migration, it does have some superb residential game - and you will catch the migration as it moves North around June time. The camp is also well located for balloon flights out of Grumeti. The views from the camp of the Dutwa Plains are fantastic for watching the game as it meanders past.
The lodge is made up of 40 well decorated rooms, with lots of space and handcrafted and bespoke furnishings. There are different room categories thus offering various choices to those on certain budgets. All the rooms are en suite and the higher room categories really do offer some great specs like outdoor baths and larger verandas.
The main area consists of a rather large restaurant, a great bar and pool and a very well stocked curio shop. The main area has some interesting off sets to it, one of which is a presentation area for educational documentaries about Tanzania.
Day time game driving is the only possible
safari option from Mbalalgeti.
