Singita Mara River Tented Camp - The Facts
Singita Mara Tented Camp is located in the North of the
Serengeti, best accessed from the Kogatende or Lamai Airstrips by light aircraft on charter or schedule flights from other areas in North Tanzania. The Lodge sits very close to the Mara River with uninterrupted views from all the tents.
The lodge is raised on the platforms giving excellent views onto the Mara River and the surroundings of this remote and beautiful area of the Serengeti. Being a tented camp, in contrast to most other Singita properties, gives the Mara Camp a very intimate feel and a very unique charm. It's just about as luxurious as your tented
Serengeti Safari can get! If you are in search for that extra special
honeymoon, this is the one for you.
The main activity at Singita Mara Tented Camp is game driving in Singitas open sided Land Rovers, but it is also possible to partake in walking safaris. Although game viewing here is good all year round, the absolute best time to visit is between July and October when the Wildebeest of the Great Migration will be attenpting to cross the watery Gauntlet of the Great Mara River on which the Camp sits. It is one of the most spectacular sights in nature.
As with any Singita property the level of service and hospitality is second-to-none, yet due to the camp's location in the National Park itself, there are restrictions on the activities available. That is why we recommend combining Singita Mara with one of their other properties in their private Grumeti Concession.
Whilst a typical Northern itinerary may only see you visit one camp in the Serengeti, combining two camps over the course of six or seven days makes for a brilliant experience. Whilst you can focus on the Great Migration at Singita Mara, the other Singita properties will allow you to take part in night drives and horse riding as well as off-road driving which allows you to follow the wildlife through their natural habitat and get some incredible photographic opportunities.
Undertsanding the Wildebeest Great Migration is imperative to ensuring you have the Serengeti safari you have wished for. The migration is typically in the North of the Serengeti from July through to October where they cross the famous Mara River and try to avoid the lurking crocodiles and predators that wait in ambush on the banks. From November through to March the herds congregate on the Ndutu Plains in the South of the park where February sees three weeks of intensive calving where 8,000 young are born every day. From April the herds then start to head North again, into the Seronera and Grumeti regions before finally arriving in the Kogatende region by the start of July.
After an exciting safari at Singita, there are some great options for beach retreats only a couple of hours away. From the island of Mnemba to the high-class hotels of Zanizbar, nothing quite compares to sipping a cool drink on the beach to relax after your safari.
The island of Zanzibar is full of hotels, however you need to be careful when choosing where to stay. Much of the island is tidal so the beaches are sometimes not what one would expect. The hotels
Xanadu and
White Sands offer some beautiful villas for honeymoons and larger villas for families where every amentiy one could wish for is provided.
Zuri is however the hotel with the best beach. It is a non-tidal part of the coast meaning you can spend all day laying on the glistening white sand or splashing in the ocean. The numerous swimming pools and bars also make for great entertainment throughout the day.
