We stayed at Zuri Zanzibar in July 2018, and loved it. We had a fabulous two room villa for our family, with sunset views through the gardens. The staff were lovely, all very friendly and smiley and funny, and we had great swimming - either on the beach or at the pool. The food was occasionally very good, but also occasionally not; we understand that the hotel is still finding its way, and we assume that this will improve quite quickly. All in all, a great place. We want to come back when the beach bar is open!
Zuri is amazing - we had a wonderful time. Thank you again for sorting it all out for us and helping me remember my times in Africa 25 yrs ago! Although my memories of 1993/4 certainly weren’t 5 star!! So I feel pretty spoilt this time round.
Zuri is a beautifully designed resort in a spectacular spot on the northern tip of Zanzibar. My husband and I took our two kids (13 and 10 yrs old) in July 2018. It has been sensitively built into the landscape – with each room offering a beautiful sea view and appointed with every imaginable thing you might need. The private veranda with hammocks off each bedroom were perfect for a mid afternoon doze, and the outdoor, private bath with sea view was a lovely surprise. The hotel’s private beach was stunning, both in the morning and for the sunset evenings. The resort’s main restaurant and the poolside restaurant offered both traditional African dishes as well as European, with the chefs actively seeking to please. Our trip was only Zuri’s second week after opening – so unsurprisingly it was very early days for a five-star resort but it has all the hallmarks, ambition, service and staffing levels to offer the most fabulous holiday. It was the perfect resting place after a safari on the mainland. Day trips to Nungwi and to Stone Town were both easily arranged by concierge and an added bonus. Our sunset dhow snorkelling trip will stay long in the memory too.
The Zuri Zanzibar resort was just over the top georgeous. The bungalow was incredibly well appointed, the pool and the beach were top rate. Great spa. Great service at the front and back of the house.
Frankly though the one thing I would caution about was the food service. The food itself was great, but these folks are still working out the service kinks of a July opening. They alternated between serving dinner via buffet (which worked very well) and fixed menu (which didn’t work quite so well). The kitchen and the front of the house were not totally in synch for fixed menu and, frankly, one night they just so totally screwed up the entire service we left after the fish course (waited for 60 minutes for the pasta course which never came) but we were pretty full anyhow so it was not a major issue. I could imagine however that some guests would pitch a fit so be aware that they have these issues right now. The manager served us champagne the next dinner as a comp (he really didn’t need to as we are veterans of dining out and understand how things can get out of synch) but the gesture was much appreciated.
