With so few rooms the lodge remains small and intimate, in our view essential for a beach stay! Mchanga is excellent value for money and rather underpriced in our opinion, which makes it one of Zanzibar’s best small beach lodges. If you are looking to spend a little bit more then look at Echo beach or Ras Nungwi.

Mchanga beach lodge is located on the north-eastern coast of Zanzibar about an hour’s drive from the airport and Stone Town. Zanzibar is only a 20 minute flight from Dar es Salaam.

The main dining area and relaxed, informal beach bar have been designed very much with comfort in mind. A great place to unwind after your safari. Keeping with the beach feel of the lodge, the bar is spacious and yet intimate with groupings of comfortable arm chairs providing the perfect place for a mid afternoon refresher. We receive consistently good reports for the food, an ecclectic fusion of African and European styles, fresh seafood is a speciality.

The concept for the lodge came from the owners', Thomas and Gloria, many visits to Zanzibar over the years and the apparent lack of a small and quiet resort that has great rooms and a laid back feel for your Tanzania holiday.

Each en suite Sea View Lodge room is spacious and airy with a combination of multi-functional shutters, hand crafted, wooden louver doors, electric ceiling fans, air conditioning and traditionally high beamed ceilings. A beautiful, finely, hand-crafted Zanzibari four poster bed is the focal point in the room, together with high quality bed linen. A classic baraza seating area with kanga covered cushions enhances the spaciousness of the room and adds privacy. Six rooms have their own sea facing, makuti covered sand terrace, including two chairs and a table where early morning coffee and tea are delivered. The garden rooms are more private but with no sea view.
