Blue Bay resort works very well for a more economical option in the large hotel category. It may be big but this hotel has everything you need and rather nice rooms given the low price. Most large cheaper hotels are notoriously bad but the Blue Bay Resort delivers a great product if you are not expecting the world! We do prefer Breezes Beach Club which is slightly more expensive and smaller in comparison but we think it is worth the little extra cost.
Blue Bay - The Facts
The Blue Bay Resort is located on the East coast of Zanzibar about a 45 minute drive from
Stone Town and the airport in an area called Kiwengwa.
The communal areas of the resort are spread out into different sections. The 4 restaurants, Makuti, Pool Bar, Beach Bar and Grill and the Bahari Grill form the layout. Located in different areas of the property, you walk through well decorated gardens to get to these. There is an adequately sized swimming pool with deck chairs and umbrellas. The resort is okay for
Tanzania holidays, but perfect for conferences as there is a 24 hours business centre.
There are 4 room categories, Garden, Superior, Junior Suites and Sultan Suites. The various room categories allow good choice in the standard of rooms. The Garden and Superior rooms are built up in each other with 3 in a block. We prefer to not recommend the Garden rooms. The Junior suites and Sultans suites are the best with the Sultans being 100 square metres. Each room has air conditioning, satellite TV, hairdryers ceiling fan and a veranda. They are all welcoming and comfortable.
There is an activities centre for scuba diving, excursions, recreational water sports and big game fishing. There is also a children’s club and wellness centre. This would work well with a
Tanzania safari and
honeymoon.
