Probably the pick of the Sopa lodges in Tanzania as it offers a somewhat intimate experience (considering the numbers of rooms), in a great spot for game viewing. Being a Sopa lodge it is rather dated but it serves as a brilliant money saver in an excellent position of the park. Ideally you want to be a bit further south and stay at Olivers or Swala which are more expensive but the extra cost is certainly justifiable. They are in great locations and they are small tented camps.
Tarangire Sopa Lodge - The Facts
Tarangire Sopa Lodge is located in the north-east of the park, about a two and half hour drive from the northern town of Arusha. The main areas of the lodge are actually quite enjoyable. The lodge is made up of large open rooms, long archways and typical
Tarangire safari decor.
The makuti-style thatched roof over the reception and dining room is quite awe-inspiringly high, and, as with the Ngorongoro Sopa and the Serengeti
Sopa Lodge, it creates a sense of safari grandeur and fantastic floor to ceiling views. The restaurant food is reliably good, and with a rooftop barbeque area and poolside tables, the choice of where to eat can be as confusing as what to eat!
Each of the 70 rooms has all the basic luxuries such as air-con, balcony and shower, and the pool is a fantastic place to go for a circular swim around the rather prominent central reservation, home to a few sun loungers.
The Sopa is well positioned at the centre of
Tarangire, with excellent safari opportunities in every direction.
