Tides is now permanently closed.
A great little property which goes very well with certain itineraries. It offers exceptional value for money and is great for all types of traveller, including honeymooners and families. Located on the mainland coast it is relatively remote unlike the ever growing Zanzibar Island. It is cheaper Ras Kutani lodge which is our much preferred mainland coast destination, but the drop in quality suggests it should be. For a little extra money Ras Kutani does buy you an infinitely better time, but Tides does have good diving whereas Ras Kutani has none at all.
Tides Beach Resort - The Facts
The Tides Lodge is located on the mainland coast, about and hour’s flight north of Dar es Salaam. The lodge is about a 20 minute drive from Pangani airstrip and about and hour and half from Tanga. It connects well with a northern
Tanzania safari circuit.
The lodge is built along the coast line with the main area being in the centre. There is an open and airy main area built from wood and bamboo, right on the beach edge. Here is the bar and living area, perfect for enjoying the peace and sea air. The dining area is in the same structure but to one side, which is very well located for maximising your views and atmosphere during meal times. Aside from this there is a well sized pool and an activities centre.
The nine cottage rooms are all dotted down the beach. They are well spaced out and offer good privacy, but most of all, good views. The rooms seem slightly dated, but they really do work and are clean and modern inside. The beds are draped with a mosquito net and the bathroom is semi-open to the room.
The two suites are on the opposite side of the property to the cottage rooms. These are much bigger and offer a bit more privacy. They are great for familiy
Tanzania holidays as well.
There is a well equipped activities centre here for snorkelling, diving, dinghy sailing and dhow sailing.
